Music Education Graduate Successes

  • Graduates of Loyola University New Orleans’ Music Education Programs have been employed as band teachers, chorus teachers, orchestra teachers, and teachers of general music at public, charter, parochial, and private schools across the United States. Graduates who decide to go onto graduate school, pursue graduate degrees in music and music education.
  • Students get diverse education and training to prepare for the music teaching position they choose. Graduates are teaching in such cities as Baton Rouge (LA), Boston (MA), Boulder (CO), Bridgeport (CT), Chicago (IL), Dallas (TX), Houston (TX), Las Vegas (NV), New York (NY), Philadelphia (PA), San Antonio (TX), Wilmington (NC), and the Greater New Orleans region.
  • At Loyola, it’s important for our students to develop a realistic vision of excellence in teaching music, and the relevant and innovative pedagogy of teaching and learning instrumental, vocal, general, and contemporary music.
  • While Loyola University New Orleans’ Music Education degree/certification programs meets Louisiana’s licensure requirements which certifies you to teach music, our programs are reciprocal with other states. Our Music Education Program’s practice is to work with you to get certified in Louisiana and obtain certification in other states, per your interests.
  • Beginning in their freshmen through junior years, students get real life teaching experience in private, parochial, and public school music classes. Students begin with music class observations, then shadowing and assisting music teachers, and teaching band, choir, orchestra, and other music classes in a variety of school settings.
  • In their culminating Teaching Residency, students are placed in schools in Louisiana such as St. Charles Parish Schools, Jefferson Parish Schools, St. Tammany Parish Schools, and Orleans Parish Schools.
