Centers and Facilities
Loyola’s design program is distinctive in its integration of both analog and digital processes, drawing inspiration from the vibrant culture of New Orleans.
Diboll Design Center: The Diboll Design Center is a professional gallery and educational space dedicated to design and visual storytelling, managed by Loyola’s Department of Design and located on the fourth floor of Monroe Library. It showcases work by local, national and international designers and it also serves as a hub for the New Orleans design community through exhibitions, lectures, and other public events. It’s the only design gallery in the city of New Orleans.
Double Space Gallery: The Double Space Gallery serves as a dedicated space for critique and exhibition, where students present their design work and interact with peers, faculty, and the wider community. It also hosts pop-up student shows for individual classes, providing flexible opportunities for creative presentation.
Interactive Lab: The Interactive Lab focuses on digital and interactive design technologies, including user experience (UX) and interface design. Students use this space including touch screens, ipads and 3d printers to experiment with emerging digital tools and develop interactive projects.
Junior/Senior Studio: The Junior/Senior Studio is dedicated workspaces where upper-level design students refine their skills through intensive projects and portfolio development. It emphasizes professional practice and conceptual thinking in preparation for graduation.
Large Format Printing Lab: This lab is equipped with printers capable of producing large-scale design outputs, such as posters and banners. It supports high-quality printing for both student projects and faculty work.
Letterpress Studio: The Letterpress Studio offers hands-on experience with traditional printing techniques using small and large letterpress equipment. It allows students to explore the tactile, analog design processes and craftsmanship.
Motion Lab: The Motion Lab specializes in animation, video, and motion graphics production. It provides high-end computers, tools and software for students to create dynamic visual content and explore storytelling through movement.
Niche is a student-run, high-end design shop in the Department of Design at Loyola University New Orleans, blending the city’s vibrant culture with innovative retail experiences. Offering both a physical store in the Diboll Design Center and a digital shop, Niche gives students hands-on experience in brand storytelling, visual merchandising, and creative entrepreneurship, while selling limited-edition, thoughtfully crafted goods by faculty and alumni.
Risograph Room: The Risograph Room houses a risograph printer, which enables cost-effective, vibrant, and eco-friendly printing. Students use this space to produce zines, posters, and limited-edition prints with a unique aesthetic.
Screenprinting Lab: The Screenprinting Lab provides facilities for students to learn and practice screenprinting techniques. This hands-on space supports experimentation with color, texture, and layering in print design.
The Collective is a design-studio-style class within Loyola University New Orleans’ Department of Design, where graphic and UX design students take on professional-level projects for clients on campus and beyond. In this unique course that runs every semester including summer, students collaborate directly with clients on branding, websites, motion graphics, and more, gaining hands-on experience, building diverse portfolios, and developing meaningful professional relationships.
This Spot Gallery: This student-run exhibition space highlights experimental and innovative design work, providing emerging designers a platform to showcase cutting-edge ideas. It also offers hands-on experience in running a gallery and navigating the full process of exhibition design.
3d Woodworking Lab: (This is currently offline while being upgraded.) This lab is dedicated to 3-dimensional design, providing students with the tools and workspace to explore sculptural, spatial, and physical design concepts. Equipped with fabrication tools, modeling materials, and prototyping equipment, it supports hands-on experimentation in creating tangible objects, architectural models, and interactive installations. The lab fosters technical skill development, creative problem-solving, and the translation of design ideas into three-dimensional form.
Photography Lab: The Photography Lab is equipped with green screens, professional lighting, high-quality cameras, and black-and-white backgrounds, providing a hands-on environment for photography and photo-based projects in coursework. After completing training in the Photo Design class, students are invited to use the lab independently for personal and creative projects, offering space for experimentation within a professional studio setting.
