Loyola University’s Digital Filmmaking Program aspires to cultivate artists of character and conscience, possessed of a wholistic understanding of the medium and a dedication to the craft and, further, to inculcate and inspire, in these artists, the intentional creation of stories that can build a more thoughtful, compassionate, and inclusive world.
WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO
At Loyola Film, students learn how to make films by actually making them from their very first semester. From day one, you’ll be hands-on with the tools of the trade, experimenting with cutting-edge equipment and technology to develop your unique voice as a filmmaker. We are committed to cultivating that voice and to providing you the necessary skills and experience to bring your creative vision to life. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, and our students are actively immersed in the process of conceiving and creating and working on set from the freshmen year forward.
Our program is holistic in nature, offering in-depth training in all aspects of film production, including directing, producing, screenwriting, cinematography, and production design, as well as the business, history, and theory of film. This comprehensive approach ensures that, by the time you graduate, you’ll have experience in every element of the medium and an understanding of how all the moving parts come together to create a cohesive whole.
Central to our mission is a focus on storytelling—crafting compelling, relevant narratives that speak to today’s audiences. Our faculty, composed of seasoned industry professionals, are not only dedicated to teaching the craft but also to guiding you in telling stories that matter. They bring years of real-world experience to the classroom, offering insight into the realities of working in the industry. Beyond technical expertise, you’ll gain the professional network and industry connections necessary to open doors and thrive in your filmmaking career. Whether your passion lies in directing, writing, cinematography, or any other facet of the filmmaking process, our program is designed to prepare you for success in the evolving world of cinema.
