Sofia Riggio

Sofia Riggio is an orchestral, operatic, and choral conductor and composer based in New Orleans and New York. Her training spans degrees in orchestral conducting, classical voice, and art history.

Riggio serves as Director of the Loyola Symphony Orchestra, Professor of Italian language and Operatic Literature, and Co-director and Choirmaster of the Symphony of New Orleans.

Riggio has conducted multiple world premieres and classic works in both Italy and the US with Opera Neo, Mostly Modern Orchestra, the Symphony of New Orleans, Voices of New Orleans, the Narnia Arts Festival, and the American Modern Ensemble. Recent performances with the Symphony of New Orleans include the premiere of her own symphonic work, In Bocca al Lupo, Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite, Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, Price’s Symphony no. 4, and Holst’s The Planets Suite. Her previous operatic collaborations include Mozart’s The Impresario, Così Fan Tutte, Mitridate, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica, and Landau’s Pietà.
