Bio

Margaret Howze is an academic advisor for the College of Music and Media, supporting students in their coursework and career plans and fostering an overall positive college experience. She advises students in both schools of CMM – the School of Music and Theatre Professions and the School of Communication and Design – tapping into her own background in both media production and music. Margaret worked for 15 years as a producer for NPR Cultural Programs (now NPR Music) in Washington, DC, directing long-form documentaries, live broadcasts, and weekly shows. She produced two Peabody Award-winning programs, including the acclaimed 26-part series Wynton Marsalis: Making the Music. Other honors include a Gracie Award (Alliance for Women in Media) for the 2-part Jazz Profiles: Women in Jazz, and awards from CPB, NABJ, and New York Festivals.  She’s lived in New Orleans since 2000, where she raised her family and was a longtime contributing producer for the New Orleans-based public radio programs American Routes and Music Inside Out.

Margaret earned a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia and began work in the music industry at CBS Records in London and New York.

In addition to academic advising at Loyola, she shares her enthusiasm for all things radio and audio as a coordinator for Loyola’s internet station, Howl Radio, where she guides students as music programmers, studio DJs, and live broadcast hosts.
