School of Music students Excel in National Trumpet Competition

Loyola School of Music students traveled to Columbus, Georgia for the semi-final and final rounds of the 2016 National Trumpet Competition. This is Loyola's first time participating in the competition, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all over the country and includes divisions for Classical Solo, Jazz Solo, and Trumpet Ensembles. The competition has evolved to become a major conference, allowing our students to meet and perform for some of the most legendary names in the field. Loyola entries for the first round, in the ensemble divison and jazz solo division, advanced to the semi-finals and competed in the competition.

Junior Music Performance and Composition double major Tyler Lindsay took top place in  the Jazz Solo Division. Each round consisted of different repertoire, with the final round giving him the opportunity to premiere two of his originals.

Students competing in the Small Ensemble Division first round and advancing on to the semi-finals included:

Tyler Lindsay, Junior Music Performance and Composition double major from Mechanicsville, VA
Oliver Kodner, Masters in Music with Teaching Certification from St. Louis, MO
Cyrus Nabipoor, Senior Jazz Studies Major from Portland, OR
