Jazz coordinator John Mahoney performs in Rochester, N.Y.

John Mahoney, coordinator of jazz studies and instrumental music at Loyola University New Orleans, recently attended and performed at the Eastman School of Music Reunion and Tribute for conductor and trombonist Rayburn Wright in Rochester, N.Y.

The Eastman Jazz Ensemble selected Mahoney’s big band composition, “Unspoken Requests,” for performance at the tribute concert. Antonio Garcia ’81, a Loyola and Eastman alumnus, played the trombone solo. Mahoney also performed two of his other compositions on trombone during a jam session at the reunion and extended his trip to conduct clinics at four high schools in Syracuse.
