Scott Gericke

Assistant Professor, Department of Design

Recognized for his design advocacy and interdisciplinary collaboration, Scott Gericke has spent his career focused on building relationships and challenging young minds.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Scott’s professional journey has taken him from a corporate design studio to environmental graphic design, information design, advertising, and experiential marketing. His client roster includes Sprint, AT&T, St. Louis Rams, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Coca-Cola, UPS, and Microsoft. But it’s his academic journey that he’s most proud of.

Beginning at Washington University in St. Louis, Scott taught a variety of typography, brand systems, and senior seminar courses. However, it wasn’t until his position as director of the Visual Communications Research Studio that his love for teaching became apparent. By connecting students to active learning and professional practice experiences, the Studio flourished with research-based, client-driven projects, such as a heart care exhibit, mobile science lab, and pet naming widget—all designed and realized by faculty and students within a three-year span.

Scott is an American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Fellow, proud father, dog lover, and avid sports fan. You can find him in the letterpress studio or the Risograph room, hiding from the perils of technology. He received his MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
