TAD Alum Becomes Published Illustrator

Loyola Department of Theatre Arts & Dance (TAD) alum Nicole Miller officially became a published illustrator in March of this year. A 2020 musical theatre graduate, Miller has illustrated three children’s books since graduating, the first of which was published recently on Amazon.

She created an account on Fiverr, a website for freelancers, that specified her interest in and ability to illustrate children’s books. Soon after, author Kevin Payne reached out to her about illustrating “My Very Own Superhero.”

“I thought it sounded like a fun and sweet story, especially because he wanted to base the characters off of his wife and daughter,” she said.

“My Very Own Superhero” was inspired by Payne’s nurse wife and daughter. It follows a child talking about her personal superhero who, in the end, is revealed to be her mother, a nurse. Miller created over a dozen illustrations for the book, including its cover.

“I didn’t really think much else would come of it, but I was pleasantly surprised when he shared the Amazon link with me,” she said.

Miller has also illustrated two other children’s books, one through Fiverr and the other for a local New Orleans author, though neither has made moves to publish yet.
