Named for the character Pygmalion in Ovid’s metamorphosis who is a sculptor who falls in love with a woman he carved out of ivory, Shaw’s famous play tells the story of a Professor who seeks to transform the rough, cockney woman Eliza Doolittle into a passable member of cultured society.
