Grace O Malley

Grace O’Malley was born in Washington, DC. She started out creating art in her garage and independently developed a portfolio that got her into multiple art schools around the United States. She decided to attend Loyola University in New Orleans because of the prominent street art and graffiti scene. She works as a studio assistant with Sally Heller. She also is close friends with great visionary artists like Adam France. She believes that art is essential to awakening the collective consciousness that has been conditioned to be sedentary. Grace is receiving a bachelor in fine arts and a minor in art history.

Shelter as identity project

The Omnipotent Void within the Commodity Economy.

My sculpture is a reflection of the void, in direct opposition of the idea of shelter.  It is made with the intention of reflection upon the concept of shelter and criticism of the failures in our overall system and how problematic and unequal it is.  It is conceptual and I am not concerned with it being appealing to a viewer that does not question the nature of this reality.

Shelter is a privilege in this society that many do not have. It should be an equally accessible right. But no one actually cares about each other; It’s all about the profit.  Much like the school system that kicked people out of their shelters as soon as there was a problem. Much like the school system that is still assigning grades based on attendance in online classes that are not equally accessible.  This home is where I watched my mother die. This home is where I see through those who pretend to care about those in the system of evil. I find shelter in my thoughts. I find it ignorant to be ungrateful for what one has, but I find it equally ignorant to assume that one inherently has everything just because you yourself never even considered those who do not.
