Ashley Smetherman Lemmler holds a B.A. from the University of New Orleans and an M.F.A. from Tulane University in Music/Vocal Performance. She has been a Music Educator in the New Orleans area for over 18 years. Before moving to Mandeville, LA after Hurricane Katrina, Ashley taught General Music and Choir at Louise S. McGehee School in New Orleans and Metairie Park Country Day School in Metairie, LA, and class piano through the Preparatory Department at Loyola University of New Orleans. Currently, Ashley directs the Beginning, Advanced, Women’s and Mixed Choirs at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, LA where she has worked for the last twelve years. Ashley’s groups consistently earn Superior Ratings at District and State Festivals, and many of her students are accepted into All-State Choirs every year. Ashley is a member if the American Choral Directors’ Association and currently serves as Coordinator for the LA-ACDA Youth Mixed All-State Choir. She is also a member of the National Association for Music Education and its local chapter, the Louisiana Music Educators’ Association. In that organization, she serves as her district’s Treasurer as well as chairperson of District Solo and Small Ensemble Festival. 

In addition to her work as a teacher, Ashley is a professional vocalist who has performed regionally in a broad variety of styles, including jazz, pop, musical theatre, funk, gospel, contemporary worship music, and of course as a member of classical choral ensembles. She is well known to Musical Theatre audiences in and around the New Orleans area. Some of her favorite leading roles have been Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady” at Rivertown Repertory Theatre, Yum Yum in the “Mikado” at Jefferson Performing Arts Society Theatre, Charlotte in “A Little Night Music” at Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre, and Betty Haynes in “White Christmas” at Le Petit Theatre. Ashley has also served as Musical Director for many school musicals over the years, most recently for “The Sound of Music” at Fontainebleau High School. Ashley is a featured vocalist with the eleven-piece dance band “Jubilation”, which she owns with her husband Michael Lemmler. Jubilation has performed all over New Orleans for many years at various conventions, weddings, parties, and carnival balls. In addition to her work with Jubilation, Ashley has sung with many local bands including the Leif Pedersen 1940’s Big Band, Louisiana Spice, The Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, the Joe Krown Band, The Jerry Embree Band, and the Mark Carson Band, as well as with artists George Porter, Jr., Ronnie Kole and Harry Connick, Sr. Ashley also performs with the band Swing Set, which is an Andrews Sisters type female vocal trio. Swing Set has performed at such high profile public events as Southeastern University’s Fanfare, Pontchartrain Vineyard’s “Jazz in the Vines” and the New Orleans French Quarter Festival. Swing Set has also entertained at many celebrations at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Finally, Ashley has been a featured jazz soloist in such venues in New Orleans as the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the Monteleone Hotel, The Windsor Court Hotel, and Harrah’s Casino. Finally, Ashley performs weekly as the worship leader at First United Methodist Church of Hammond for the last twelve years and has served as the female vocalist for Christ Episcopal Church in Covington’s Jazz Service for the last year three years.
