Alton Geno is a choreographer, director, actor, and dancer. This is his second year to teach Tap Dance for Musical Theatre at Loyola. After receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree from USM, he studied dance in New York for six years at Ronn Forella Studios, Chuck Kelly Dance Studios, Finus Jhung Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet. He has taken Master classes with Ann Reinking, Honey Coles, Brenda Buffalino, and Linda Haberman. He moved to New Orleans when Tulane Summer Lyric called him to choreograph a show. Since moving, he has choreographed, directed, and acted in 48 Summer Lyric shows. He has also directed, choreographed, and acted in shows throughout New Orleans. He has received eight Big Easy Awards (two awards for Best Direction of a Musical, Two for Best Actor in a Musical, and four for Best Choreographer) and eight Storer Boone Awards. 

 

His proudest accomplishments are his students. They have appeared in commercials, featured films, television, national tours, major dance companies, and Broadway. Their Broadway credits include A Chorus Line, The Color Purple, 42nd Street, Sunset Boulevard, Joseph/Dreamcoat, Smokie Joe's Cafe, Cats, Anything Goes, Threepenny Opera, La Cage aux Folles, Aida, West Side Story, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Drowsy Chaperone, Contact, Beauty and the Beast, Ain't Misbehavin', Fosse, Dancin', Chicago, and Pippin. There's more! 

 

Geno taught at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts where his high school students went on to study at Loyola, LSU, Tulane University, New York University, Juilliard, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Georgetown, Oklahoma City, and University of Massachusetts. Other private students went on to study and perform with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey, The Metropolitan Opera, Jose Limon, and Paul Taylor. Other students have performed with the Rockettes, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, and Beyoncé. There's many more.
