JEA/Loyola Media Day Draws a Crowd and Continues a Rich Legacy

In late January, the School of Communication and Design joined with the Louisiana chapter of the Journalism Education Association to host JEA/Loyola Media Day. This event gives high school students from around the state a chance to learn about various careers in Mass Communication and Design.

Students attended four sessions throughout the day exploring journalism, broadcasting, design, social media, digital filmmaking, motion graphics and public relations. The sessions included topics such as Fun With Social Media Photos, Adventures in Podcasting, Engaging Website Design, and Sports Coverage and Audience Development.

Nicole Waivers, news director at WWL-TV, and a Loyola and Edna Karr High School graduate, gave the keynote address in Nunemaker Auditorium.

Mike Taylor, an award-winning yearbook adviser who is a journalism specialist at Walsworth Yearbooks, offered 15-minute, one-on-one sessions for yearbook advisers and staffers.

The School of Communication and Design, the Press Club of New Orleans, and Walsworth Yearbooks sponsored the event, which will turn 25 years old in 2025.
