Who: Henry R. Muñoz, III

What: Winner, 75th Emmy Awards – Executive Producer, “WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story”

Henry R. Muñoz, III, an activist, businessman and philanthropist, won his first Emmy this past spring as executive producer of “WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story,” which won in the Outstanding Television Movie category. The movie stars Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al Yankovic, one of the highest-selling comedy recording artists of all time.

The project was Muñoz’s first after purchasing Funny Or Die, a comedy website and production company founded by actor Will Ferrell and others, in 2021. Muñoz currently serves as the company’s chairman.

In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Muñoz served from 2013 to 2019 as the Democratic National Committee’s finance chair, and as the first Latino and openly gay man to hold that position. 

The San Antonio native also has launched national movements to support the Latino Community and is helping to lead the efforts to build an American Latino Museum on the Mall in Washington, D.C.

Muñoz is also the co-founder of SOMOS US, a nonprofit health network in New York City that treated largely immigrant communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A former Loyola Board of Trustees member, Muñoz was selected to the School of Communication and Design’s Den of Distinction in 2022, which is the highest honor an alum can receive from the school.
