My mother is a source of comfort, support and security. The role she plays as a shield and protector from the hardships in my life, most specifically my depression. Altars are primarily used religiously, and are described as a place that is meant to honor it’s subject and draw strength from it. Altars are usually present in places of communal worship, however personal altars do exist and are preferable to me for this project due to the personal relationship I have with my mother. The altar will be built to quote altars of biblical figures, such as Jesus and the Virgin Mary because of the role these figures also play as a source of shelter and comfort for those who believe in them. The objects I use to construct this altar are objects I feel bring comfort, including the colors I use. To me, red signifies love, white signifies purity and gold represents serenity. The goal of this sculpture is to evoke a feeling of silent tranquil.
